    Andrew Ledwith of Fr Murphys and  National inter counties champion ,won his 4th Meath title and Fiona Reid of Dunboyne won her 2nd .Bohermeen men retained their team title for the 3rd year in a row and Dunshaughlin ladies also retained their their title .

    The largest fields in over 20 years were seen with 53 men and 26 ladies finishing the testing but dry course at Ardbraccan cross Bohermeen

    The 37th Rennicks Cup& 34th Fr Delany cup

    Over 5 miles of Bohermeen Highways and Byways

    On Sunday sept 13th at 2pm

    (Entries close 1-30pm)

    The course will include a very scenic view of the locality and will cross the new M3 several times ,throughout the race

    Along the course runners will pass some of the regions historical places of interest .The race starts on the New Line built during the great famine of 1845-49.They pass Ardbraccan glebe former home of the Pettigure family who once owned the old White Quarry, The old Fairy fort with only 12 of its 13 remaining tress have seen and stood several hundred years of changes .Runners entering Ardbraccan will doubt fully  have time to know that they now enter a rural parish once the size of Navan in times past .Ardbraccan House on the left as runners climb Laws hill named after the local landlord of the past century .On the left is Iretons old cottage and none remain in the parish now, As runners climb the new bridge over the M 3 on the left is the former home of the legendary Gaelic player of times past the late Jem Coogan a winner of 6 senior championships medals with Bohermeen from 1909-1914 and a Meath stalwart in his day.. Entering the final two mile on the right is the oldest inhabited house in Ireland Durhamstown Castle with walls 4 feet thick.

    The final mile will pass the Parochial house and the local church and school and McLoughlins house where Bohermeen AC was reformed in 1969.The final 800metres will tear the final efforts from any human and ending on the athletic track.

    The distance is   5 MILES

    Last race in this years Meath road league and also the last race in Meath this summer

    Open to all capable of running jogging or walking the distance

    The first 300 to enter will receive a very special commissioned T shirt, depicting the Rennicks cup which is a replica of the Ardagh chalice which is also the Sam Maguire. The Rennicks cup was manufactured in 1972 by the makers of the old Sam Maguire .Hopkins & Hopkins of Dublin 

    The Bohermeen 5 mile challenge comes at an ideal time for the cross country season ahead and we invite all clubs and athletes to test their early season form .

    Celebrate 125 years of the GAA by asking your local GAA members to run .you may hook them for the cross country season.

    There will be cash awards for the top 6 men and ladies and the first 300 to enter will receive the special T Shirt for the event .

    We will provide car parking at Bohermeen community centre, with changing and showers available in hall. There will be a post race video and refreshments .

    Entry fee Adult 15 Euro.    Junior under 20 down 5 Euro

    Preceding the Rennicks cup will be the usual morning childrens races or fun runs  ,

    At 11-30am

    Runs for boys and girls from under 15 ,14.13.12.11.10.9.8.7.6.5.

    Longest race under 15 800mts and reducing as per age with the youngest 70 mts age 5  Entry fee per child on the line 2 Euro

    Awards top 3 in each and the top 6 in each run receives points for the cups section.

    Overall juvenile club receives the Rogers perpetual cup and the top Meath club receives the Bohermeen Pioneer association cup.

    Bohermeen win Meath hill running

    championship at Mullaghmeen Forest

    The clubs senior mens squad ended the year on a high note in the Hills & Forest of Mullaghmeen win a great team win ,led by John Gill in 4th place and well backed by Derek Croal 6th , Blaine Rennicks 7th and Dermot Farrelly 8th. The ladies saw  Geraldine & Kathleen Gill place 1st & 2nd senior . Linda Gunning took gold over 45 and Bohermeen ladies won silver in the team awards .

    St Brigids are to be congratulated on their fine promotion with the soup and sandwiches an extra gesture of what grass roots athletics is all about.

    Bohermeen wins Meath Senior cross country title at Trim .

    The  clubs senior mens squad  won the Meath senior club title after an absence of 3 years at Trim castle on sunday last.

    The race over 8k was won by Gerard Heery of St Brigids in style with Rory McDonnell of Dunboyne 2nd and Richard Byrne of Bohermeen 3rd .

    The club had 11 runners in the thick of it and their efforts resulted in a team victory by 4 pts from Dunboyne and Na Fianna   .

    The top 4 runners were Richard Byrne 3rd , Dermot Clarke 8th ,Derek Croal 13th and Darragh Rennicks 15th .

    The efforts of the following also helped push the team scores further apart John Gill, ,Blaine Rennicks, Gearoid Rennicks, Dermot Farrelly, Chris Reilly,Tommy Gill & Darren Vahey .

    Well done to all.

    The clubs ladies A team placed 2nd  just 6 points behind the winners Na Fianna .the team was Avril Fitzsimons, Linda Gunning, Geraldine Gill & Leah Rennicks .The ladies B team took gold with Aveen English, Catherine Gorman, Kathleen Gill & Patrica Fox the gold winners

    The club also had 28 juveniles on 7 relay teams who did very well winning the boys under 10 event and the boys and girls under 12 taking bronze

    Meath county boards awards 2006

    Bohermeen athletes received a massive percentage of the awards at last sundays Meath Co Boards awards evening in the Old Darnley hotel in Athboy.The attendance of 200 plus was swelled by 35 Bohermeen representatives .The true dimension of any club is that they have members in all grades of athletics and on sunday club athletes from senior masters,junior and juvenile level received awards .

    The four top level awards went to Blaine Rennicks junior track athlete of the year,Linda Gunning masters cross country athlete of the year,Eve Blake juvenile cross country athlete of the year age 9-13 and Karen Dunne juvenile track athlete of the year age 9-13

    Bohermeen race in Co Cavan

    For the second successive week club runners took to the roads and this time in the Annalle 5 mile road race in Cavan town now in its 4th year .

    Despite the terrible weather with rain and wind throughout the duration of th race over 140 hardy annuals took part.

    Paul Buckely from Ferbane took the win from John Byrne from Mayo with Meath senior cross country champion Gerard Heery back in action in 3rd place .Bohermeen were represented by 9 runners with John Gill the first home in 14th place ,Dermot Clarke 16th ,Derek Croal 19th,Dermot Farrelly 20th,Anthony Smith 23rd ,Eddie Casey 26th and Shane boyle 35th ,Ladies Avril Fitzsimons place 3rd senior lady and Linda Gunning won the o/45 division.

    The promoting club deserve great credit for a very friendly and enjoyable event

    Twelve Bohermeen athletes are to receive awards from the Meath athletic board at their annual awards evening on sunday november 19th at 5pm .

    The venue is the Old Darnley hotel in Athboy and the club expects to have approx 30 club members attending .

    John Gill, Dermot Farrelly and Derek Croal held Meath to a great win in the Intermediate contest .

    Eve Blake is the clubs top placer in the girls under 13 contest finishing 5th from a field of almost 150 runners .Karen Dunne 15th and Eve win bronze county medals.

    Bohermeen club athletes travelled to the home of St Oliver Plunkett in Loughcrew Oldcastle on sunday last (oct 15th) for day two of the country cross country championships .Two individual golds from Blaine Rennicks and Darragh Rennicks in the under 18 and under 16  along with five team placings on the day was the highlight.But the real excitement was the team victory by the girls under ten team ,led by Oliva O,Mahony in 4th place .

    Bohermeen athletic club will promote the 34th running of the Rennicks cup on sunday september 10th ,starting at 2pm entries close at Bohermeen community centre at 1-30pm.The event has been held annually since feb 1972 .

    There are awards in senior junior and masters divisions  also team prizes in both mens and ladies

    There is a juvenile track programme commencing at 11-30am ,with race for boys and girls from age 5 to 15.With every age catered for .

    Almost 100 athletes lined up for the 2nd annual tribute to the murdered newsman Simon Cumbers ,who was an athlete with Navan AC some years ago.

    The first 12 men over the line were all from Meath and Robbie Matthews of Dunshaughlin AC madeit two in a row .His winning time was 19-17

    Bohermeen runners make the hour trip to Lough Ennell every wednesday in may for the very popular 3 mile road leage and with numbers up to 100 each week.Its proving to be  avery popular country blow out .

    Joe Smith in the masters category is improving each run as is Dermot Farrellyin the senior section placing 12th in round 3.

    Distance runner Avril Fitzsimons continued her great form over the weekend when she pllaced 4th overall in the RTE annual 5 mile road race ,running through the south Dublin course and rubbing shoulders with many well known TV stars Avril posted a impressive 30-31 for the 5 miles .

    MOUNTJOY GOVERNOR COMING TO BOHERMEEN AID

    Governor John Lonergan will come to the assistance of the Bohermeen track dev committee ,when he travels to the Royal county on friday may 12th when as a guest speaker at the night of food song and dance in the Old Darnley Lodge Athboy .He will be the guest speaker at the major fundraising drive by the sub committee of Bohermeen athletic club,

    Tables are priced at 1200 euro for the corporate section and 1000 euro for club family and friends.

    The funds raised will be to complete the final phase  of the track development at Neilstown.

    Please contact the club if you wish to help put the final nail in the project.

    The final conclusion to a seven year project aided 95% by local and community funding .

    Meath 5 mile road championship St Patricks day Athboy Co Meath..

    Bohermeen men ,team champions for the past two seasons overlooked the local title for the roads of Boston and left the senior ladies to hold the club end up and this they did.

    Consistant performers Avril Fitzsimons and Linda Gunning placed 2nd and 4th in the annual event where Bohermeen has been represented since the early 1970s.

    Avril Fitzsimons placed in the silver position behind Catherine Dunne Dunboyne and Linda Gunning placed 4th overall and was top lady o/45

    Well done to both ladies and also won the team of two title.

    Bohermeen runner Avril Fitzsimons was in action in last saturdays BHAA Aer Lingus cross country international race over 2 miles .The venue was the beautifull ALSAA  sports fields .The distance was no problem to the runner who is a past Nacai All IRELAND 10 K  champion .the race was won by Meath runner Fiona McGan in 11-16   ,Avril placed 7th overall and 2nd lady 0/35 in a time of 12-19

    Bohermeen boys in Mayo

    The club made the journey to Hollymount County Mayo for their annual 10k road race now in its 40th year ,Gary Thornton took individual honours and Derek Croal led the team home in a fine performance of 8th overall with John Gill 11th ,Anthony Smith 32nd and Dermot Farrelly  40th heped the club to 5th team overall

    Congratulations to the organising committee for a great promotion

     

    Eve   The Star at Belvedere House

    Eleven year old Eve Blake was the clubs star performer at sundays Leinster cross country championships ,placing 8th from a field of almost 140 runners in the girls U12 championship.

    Belvedere House Cross Country action

    sunday november 6th

    Next sunday Leinster cross coutry continues at Belvedere House Mullingar,the club will be represented by a squad of 20 plus .Starting with the girls U1 at 12 noon ,UI4,UI6 ,UI8 and intermediate men and ladies championships take place .

    Bohermeen battle in Dunleer

    The clubs senior mens squad took second placed to Dunleer in the annual Noel McGuill cross country meet.

    John Gill led the squad in a fine 5th placing and the best Meath placed runner ,Derek Croal,Blaine Rennicks ,Anthony all make the top ten and Dermot Farrelly also helped the senior squad with a top twelve placing .

    Avril Fitzsimons places 6th in a high quaity ladies race over 4k.

     

    Leinster Gold 

    for Blaine ,Anthony , Avril & Linda Leinster cross country championships took place at Dundalk DIT on sunday last and with large numbers in most races ,it was a great feast of athletics .

    Bohermeen runners contested several different age groups and Blaine Rennicks and Anthony Smith helped Meath to gold in the UI9 event over 6000mts .

    In the ladies masters event won by Irish Internatonal Pauline Curley from Tullamore ,Bohermeen pair of Avril Fitzsimons and Linda Gunning helped Meath to the title .

    Other fine performances were by juvenile runners Killian O,Brien boys UI3 ,Karen Dunne UI3 girls and Niamh O,KellyLynch UII girls

    Avril  2nd in Glenmore race

    Avril Fitzsimons took second place in last sundays McBride cup promoted by Glenmore athletic club Co Louth .

    Childrens winter running league a major success

    Over 230 children from atleast 20 primary schools from as far as Ballyjamesduff in Cavan to Kentstown CoMeath took part.

    The ethos of the league was CHILDREN ON THE RUN

    The final day and presentation on oct 16th was attended by over 200 children and their parents,every single child that took part received a prize of distinction .

    Meath Cross Country

     Success for

    Bohermeen

    Bohermeen athletes had great success at the opening two round,s at Fraine  Athboy and Oldcastle on oct 2nd and 9th.

    Bohermeen retained the Dan Bagnall cup for the mens novice championship for the fourth successive season ,with Derek Croal winning the invividual title he was backed by  Chris Reilly, Dermot Farrelly and Declan Byrne in 10th place who won the team on the count back rule with Joe Smith also on the squad  

    Blaine Rennicks took the UI9 title and Anthony Smith won his first individual medal in cross  country taking the bronze.

    Day 2 of the Meath cs the veune was Loughcrew Oldcastle and again the club had over 50 athletes in action ,the day belonged to our juvenile athletes with 6 teams bringing home medals  

    Individually Niamh o,Kelly Lynch took silver U10, Karen Dunne and Eve Blake took gold and silver under 12 .Darragh Rennicks placed 3rd UI6 and with Keith Murray and Darren Vahey won the team award . 

    The mens Intermediate team placed 2nd again on the countback rule with Derek Croal ,Dermot Farrelly and Chris Reilly the scoring trio.

    Byrne wins in the west of Ireland

    The West Clare village of Doonbeg was the venue for the annual 5k road race and it proved to be a good venue for the travelling Bohermeen runners . 

    Richard Byrne showed his form is back with a fine individual victory in the 5k ,having placed 3rd last year .The race result was decided on the opening circuit when the 20 year old Byrne escaped all the challengers with a blistering opening 2k .Last years winner Dermot Galvin from St Johns AC in Clare and Bohermeen runner Derek Croal fought for 2nd and 3rd from gun to tape and on the line Galvin got the better by less than 2 metres ,John Gill placed 5th and Dermot Farrelly also well placed  to ensure the team title remained in Bohermeen .Declan Byrne   placed 3rd 0/40.Joe Smith 2nd 0/45,Colm Rennicks 3rd0/50,Anthony Smith 2nd junior .Linda Gunning won the 0/45 grade and in the juvenile races Conor Rennicks placed 4th under 9 .Darragh Rennicks was a clear winner of the boys under 15 race . 

     

    Bohermeen runners were in action at Carlingford on their annual visit the Michael Fearon memorial 5k ,Richard Byrne led the squad in 7th place .

    Dermot Clarke 0/40 Anthony Smith junior and Linda Gunning 0/45 placed in their grades .

    In the girls U12 road race Karen Dunne continued her winning form with  a briallant victory ,this followed her recent wins on the grass at the Le Cheile festival in Oldcastle when winning the U12 girls 100mts and 900mts

    The Club will compete in two 5k road races in the upcoming weeks. The first being the Carlingford Lock 5k on Aug 5th. The second will be the doonbeg 5k on the 12th of Aug. Doonbeg is situated outside Kilkee in Co. Clare Bohermeen will contend the team titles in both races.

    Juvenile championships

    Bohermeen athletes took part in the National juvenile track 9/10th July championships in Tullamore ,Blaine Rennciks placed 5th in both the 400mts and 800mts in the UI9 age group .Anthony Smith also took part in his first ever National track competitiion ,taking part in the 3k under 19 age group .The youngest member was Darren Vahey who threw a personal best in the UI5 javelin and all three athletes can be proud of their participation .

    The annual  town race was well supported on a very humid evening and Peter Dalton of DSD 20-04 and Pauline Curley of Tullamore 21-18 took ind honours ,the latter produced a new course record.

    Bohermeen,s 14 runners in action showed up well, Richard Byrne 20-48 led the team in 5th with Derek Croal 10th 21-07 ,Dermot Clarke 16th 21-21 and David Coffey 23rd 22-05 taking 2nd team place overall

    The ladies team of Avril Fitzsimons5th 25-20 Linda Gunning 1st 0/45 26-54and Ann Marie Casey 31-24 won the team title for the first time ever for Bohermeen

    Bohermeen Take second team prize in the  men race and third in the ladies .Over 150 runners took part in the very popular 5k in memory of the late Bob Heffernan ,a tirless worker for athletics . Derek Croal pictured here (716) took fifth place in the mens Race, Running 15:54 a new personal best.

    Juvenile training resumes ,with the future in mind .

    This monday Feb 16th juvenile training resumes after the mid winter break ,with the clubs 5 year development plan now in action.

    Juvenile training takes place for the present each monday and wednesday night at the community centre from 6-15pm till 7pm .

    All children must be atleast 7 years old to attend .

    Bohermeen Parish History

    A little piece of parish history worth noting ,in the 1920s the late Father Tomas O,Connel founded two associations which after  eighty years still exist today

    Bohermeen parish is one of the largest communities in the county and indeed the country ,with over 30 local clubs and associations within it.

    Ranging from sporting to community groups caring for the elder members of our community ,there is always the opportunity for anyone to get involved in something in the parish if they so wish.
